- Funding recreational passes that enable individuals to engage in health lifestyle choices such as swim passes and YMCA memberships.
- Funding / facilitating access to transportation such as bus passes, handicapped parking passes, taxi savers and handydart passes to improve quality of life. Read on to see why.
Improving Quality of Life
Over the past nine years the branch has provided sponsorship of annual bus passes to over 900 people in our community living with a mental illness and/or addiction. A disability pension from the provincial government is their only source of income. That is why a bus pass vastly improves their quality of life for a variety of purposes including:
- Attending community based programs and events.
- Shopping.
- Attending medical appointments.
- Participating in family activities.
- Attending exercise / recreational facilities such as the swimming pool.
- Volunteering at various local agencies/charities and events.
- Accessing various support resources in the community.
All of these programs allow individuals to regain and retain independence and an increased sense of connection to our community at large.
